Caring for Your Leather

Full-grain leather is a living material. Treat it well and it will outlast everything else in your wardrobe.

Everyday care

Hang jackets on a wide, shaped hanger — never wire — to keep the shoulders in form. Keep leather away from direct heat sources and prolonged direct sunlight, which dry and fade the hide.

If your piece gets wet, let it dry naturally at room temperature. Never use a radiator, hairdryer, or tumble dryer.

Cleaning

Wipe down with a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove surface dirt. For deeper cleaning, use a dedicated leather cleaner sparingly and always test on an inconspicuous area first.

Never machine wash, dry clean with standard solvents, or use household cleaning products on leather.

Conditioning

Every 3–6 months, apply a small amount of leather conditioner with a soft cloth, working in circular motions. Let it absorb overnight, then buff gently.

Conditioning keeps the fibres supple and helps the patina develop evenly. Vegetable-tanned leather will darken slightly with each conditioning — that's the character developing.

Storage

Store in a breathable garment bag — never plastic, which traps moisture. Keep in a cool, dry place with stable temperature.

For long-term storage, stuff sleeves lightly with acid-free tissue to hold the shape, and condition before putting the piece away.

Repairs

Scuffs, loose stitching, worn zips — don't attempt structural repairs at home. Every Suave piece is covered by lifetime repairs: send it back to the workshop and we'll restore it properly.
